Adding, Saving and Protecting Files to ICE Medical ID USB Card.


Is the ICE Medical ID™ USB Card easy to use?

If you can fill out an online form, then you can use the ICE Medical ID. To get started, plug the card into the USB port on your Windows™-based PC (Windows™ 2000 and newer) computer. There is nothing to install: everything is on the ICE Medical ID software. Fill in the forms with as much or as little information as you need. There is no need to hit "save" – the software does it for you automatically.

Can I put the results of EKGs, MRI and X-Rays on the ICE Medical ID?

Yes, you can ask your health care provider to give you a digital image of your results. The ICE Medical ID is designed to accept most document types. Just scan or copy them to your computer, and "Copy" and "Paste" the files to your ICE Medical ID. Simply click on the “My Files” tab and “Paste” your documents.

Can I put other family members on this card?

No, ICE Medical ID does not support multiple profiles. However there are software upgrades available online and at the time you register your card. You can upgrade to the ICE Family Plus package, allowing you to create up to 10 family users profiles. It is a real benefit for the heads of households to carry all family members records.

Is an Internet connection required to use my ICE Medical ID?

Internet access is not required to update and manage your ICE Medical ID card information. If you want to receive the latest software updates that become available the internet is required to download them.

With the ICE Medical ID you have your medical history available at all times. Just print out the ICE Medical ID information form and take it with you. All of your information is there to aid you when filling out medical history forms of any kind.

What if I do not have a computer? How do I load my information on my card?

You will need a Windows™-based PC to load information onto your ICE Medical ID. Ask a friend or relative to help. Most public libraries have free computers that you can use.

How do I load a picture?

While using the ICE software, click the “Change Your Picture” icon, and then select the file you want to add as your picture.

How do I save personal things like documents, pictures or music, can they be password protected?

ICE Medical ID does not have password protection. However you can upgrade your software allowing you to password protect and encrypt you documents.

There are a couple of ways to do this:

1. If you have the document open that you want to save to your card, click on “FILE”, “SAVE AS”, select the location you would like to save the document to “MY COMPUTER”, once MY COMPUTER is open select the “+ 911” icon and hit save, now your document is saved to your 911 Medical ID card.

2. .Move your mouse over the file you want to save to your card and “Right” click your mouse and select “Send To” once the new screen opens click on the “+ 911” icon and hit “Save”.

3. Simply highlight or select any digital file on your computer and copy the file. Open the 911 software, put your cursor on “My Files” at the top of each page and hit enter. This will open a screen where the programs and all of your files are stored. Put your cursor on any blank spot, right click and choose “paste”. To open a saved file put your cursor on “My Files” at the top of each page and hit enter. Put your curser on the file you wish to open and hit enter.

Saving files for ICE Medical ID Plus Protection.

Click on "MY FILES"

* There are 2 file groupings under My Files; Protected and Unprotected. Decide whether you want to designate a file as "Protected" or "Unprotected. All Protected files are encrypted and password protected. Because files larger than 1 megabyte take longer to encrypt and un-encrypt each time you use them, we suggest that you save all non-confidential files of 1 megabyte or larger as Unprotected.

* To add a file from your computer/documents, to this USB drive. Decide which section you would like to save the document to, either "Protected Files" or "Un-Protected Files". Click "Add File" at the bottom of the screen under the appropriate section, either under "Protected Files" or "Un-Protected Files".

* Setting up your password. When you click "Add File" under the "Protected Files" side you will be prompted to set up your new password, or enter your password if you have already set one up.

IMPORTANT. YOU MUST RECORD AND SAVE YOUR PASSWORD. FOR SECURITY REASONS, THERE IS NO WAY TO RECOVER YOUR PASSWORD IF PASSWORD IS FORGOTTEN.

* Once you have created or entered your password, a new Window's screen with pop up. Select which file(s) from your documents or desktop, etc. you would like to add. Once you have selected the file click the "Open" button under the file name selected on the Window's screen.

* Opening a document: Check box next to the file(s), or double-click on a file you wish to open and then click the "Open" button at the bottom of the page.

* Moving Protected file to Un-Protected Files. To un-protect a file and move it to an "Un-Protected File" grouping, click the check box or double click on the file to select it, then click "Un-Protect Checked Files" at the bottom of the screen. This will make the file un-protected or no longer password protected.

* Moving "Un-Protected Files" to "Protected Files". To Protect file(s) that are saved in "Un-Protected Files". Click the check box or double click on the file to select it, and click "Protect Files" at the bottom of the screen. This will make the file(s) password protected and encrypted.

* Deleting a File: Click on the "View All Files" button at the top of the page. Select the file you would like to delete, and push "Delete" on your key board. A file that you either add or delete in the View All Files screen will not be added or deleted to My Files area until you close and then re-open My Files, which refreshes the screen. Simply click on "Return to ICE Medical ID" and then click on My Files to see your updated files.

* Before you pull out your ICE USB card MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE RESET PASSWORD ENCRYPTED PROTECTION.

How do I activate my on-line service?

If you have purchased the ICE Medical ID card then you automatically have medicalidaccess.com available to you at no charge for one year. Your medicalidaccess.com will be activated once you register your card.

Once you have registered and logged onto the website, you can store your health information on our secure database. Not only is this site secure, but it can give you access to your health records even if you don't have your ICE Medical ID with you.

How do I register my ICE Medical ID card and activate the warranty so that I qualify
for software and hardware support?

You must be connected to the internet. When you plug in your ICE Medical ID card for the first time, a screen with come up with directions on how to operate the ICE Medical ID software. When you click the "GO TO ICE MEDICAL ID" button, a registration page will pop up. Fill out the registration page and click "Register" this will activate your warranty. Your email address is your username, and store your password somewhere you will not forget it.

What if I lose my ICE Medical ID card? Can my data be loaded onto a new card?

Yes, if you have registered , and have purchase the upgrade to medicalidaccess.com, you can download your existing information from medicalidaccess.com onto a new card. If you are not a subscriber then you will have to re-enter your information manually.

What if I accidentally erase the software on the card?

If you have registered your card with us you can re-download the software if you accidentally delete it.

What if I get an error message or the ICE Medical ID software does not open properly?

Unplug the card and plug it in again. If it still does not work properly, turn off and restart your computer.

What if I plug the connector into a USB port nothing happens?

You may have inserted the card facing the wrong direction. Unplug the card and turn the USB connector over or opposite direction and plug it back in.

What if my card stops working?

If you have registered your card then you have activated your two-year warranty. If your two-year warranty has not expired, we will replace your card and you pay only shipping and handling.

Adding a file to you 911 Medical ID

1. There are 2 file groupings under My Files; Protected and Un-protected . Decide whether you want to designate a file as "Protected" or "Un-protected" . 6. Moving Protected file to Un-Protected Files . To un-protect a file and move it to "Un-Protected File" grouping click the check box next to the file name to select it, and click "Un-Protect Checked Files" at the bottom of the screen. This will make the file un-protected and no longer require a password to open.

7. Moving Un-Protected Files to Protected Files . To Protect file(s) that are saved in "Un-Protected Files" . Click the check box on the file to select it, and click "Protect Files" at the bottom of the screen. This will make the file(s) protected and encrypted with your password.

8. Deleting a File: Click on the "View All Files" button at the top of the page. Select the file you would like to delete, and push "Delete" on your keyboard. A file that you either add or delete in the View All Files screen will not be added or deleted to My Files area until you close it and then return to My Files. Simply click on Return to ICE Medical ID and then click on My Files to see change was made.

9. Before you pull out your ICE USB card MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CLOSED AND PROTECTED ALL OPEN FILES by clicking on the Red "Protect Files" button . Warning! If you pull your USB out of the computer without clicking on the Red "Protect Files" button that appears in the lower right hand corner of your computer screen every time that you un-encrypt a Protected file, your file remains unencrypted. Therefore, ALWAYS CLICK ON THE RED BUTTON BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE CARD.
